Matthew Matt James was born in North Carolina on December 5 1991. He is the father of Manny and Patty James and is of mixed race. He has a Nigerian mother, and an American caucasian father. In 2010, he graduated in Sanderson High School and furthered into Wake Forest University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Economics in 2015. James made headlines when his appearance on The Bachelorette as a reality TV show star. In 2020 he got selected to be the new bachelor on The Bachelor's season 25, becoming the initial African American male lead which later premiered in 2021. James's appearance, size and attitude make him an ideal choice to play the role. Rachael Krakconnell who he had chosen as his girlfriend to date through the remainder of the season. In season 30 (in 2021) of Dancing with the Stars, James competed alongside dancer Arnold. James and Arnold came 12th.

The year 2015 saw Alicia undergo the interview process to join FilmStruck a TCM streaming service for movies. Robert Osborne and Ben Mankiewicz's introductions were recorded by Malone in order to practice reading them aloud to the camera before her TCM broadcast host audition.
