In 2010, he graduated of Sanderson High School and furthered to Wake Forest University where he completed a bachelor's in economics in 2015. James made headlines when he became a reality television character on The Bachelorette. In 2020, he was picked to play the 25th season bachelor on The Bachelor, becoming the first African American lead. The show debuted in on the 20th of January in. James's physique, appearance and personality were the perfect match to play the role. The season ended when he decided to choose Rachael Krkconnell for an affair with the actress.
